There is truly nothing better than curling up with a good book and a steaming cup of tea. One of my goals for 2020 was to read 20 books and I just read the final chapter in the nick of time! I read from a wide selection, everything from young adult to poetry to nonfiction to mystery. I’m outlining some of my favorites below, in no particular order 😉
Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad
While more of a journal prompt book, this book has changed my perspective of race and my role in dismantling the injustice. Highly Recommend.
The Witch Doesn’t Burn In This One by Amanda Lovelace
I love EVERYTHING Amanda writes but this one might be my favorite of her first trilogy. Strong feminism themes with the realism of living in this world.
The Silver Music Box by Mina Baites
Set in the World Wars, this is such a heartfelt story of the side of World War Two I’ve never read or even thought about. A page turner that had me wishing for a longer commute!
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Dang powerful. If the events from this summer had you thinking more about racial injustice, this young adult novel is a great perspective. While fiction, it’s totally believable and relevant now as it was in 2017.
Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
Another poetry book that spoke to my heart. I already added her next book, Homebody to my wishlist. I also love the illustrations, they add that next level feel for me.
The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo
While I consider myself a pretty minimalistic person, I learned a few tips from this little book. It also gave me the motivation to clean my baseboards during quarantine round one.
It’s Not About You by Tom Rath
This quick read put life into perspective. Even in the middle of life-altering pandemic, life isn’t about yourself. A good reminder for everyone.
Own Your Everyday by Jordan Dooley
Jordan is such a role model for me on Instagram that it made total sense for me to read her book. Hard truths with dashes of laughter and reminders that life points to God.
Rebound by Kwame Alexander
A young adult free verse poetry novel that appeals to any sports fan (or not so sporty fan). I loved both Crossover and Booked from him, and love recommending them to reluctant readers.
The 12 Week Year by Brian Moran
I love goal setting, as evidence by this post, and this book as a fast read on getting a handle on how to set better goals. If you are looking for a how-to goal guide, this one takes the cake!
[…] you set goals? Resolutions? Maybe it’s something like wanting to read 20 books in a year or losing 20 pounds. While setting goals is great, putting in the work to achieve those […]
