This is the third step in my How to Capsule series. Missed step 1 and 2? Click on over here to check it out.
Step 3 is my favorite because you are being human Barbie and playing dress up. I block off a weekend to do this step actually. It’s time consuming to make as many outfits as possible with your keep pile from step 2. But this is where the capsule really comes alive.
Play Dress Up
Finally I try to make as many outfits as possible with what I choose. I either layout options on my bed or try them on and make sure I like the way the look on my person. I take pictures of my outfits so that I can remember them for the next step. I add accessories. Layer pieces together. I try on different shoes. I try to be systematic about this step so I’ll put on the same top and try on every pair of pants with it. That way I know if the tops match my bottoms.
Finding Holes
As I’m doing this, I learn the gaps I have and try to add in a piece I already own to see if that fixes the problem and gives me more options. This is where shopping usually comes in (if it comes in at all). If I think a certain piece will add 10 outfits to my wardrobe, I’ll add it in. If it can’t make 10 outfits, I don’t choose it. I snoop around Pinterest and Instagram looking for outfit inspiration (especially with a piece that I’m not totally sure about). For example if I wanted to add a green joggers to my capsule, I’d search for outfits with green joggers. I totally did this for my tiny Holiday Capsule!
Making a Wishlist
This is where the shopping and wishlist making comes in. This part is easiest to complete while finding holes and tracking how much you wear each piece. If you see a hole, for example you might need another pair of colored pants. Write it down. I hop online and do some browsing to get a good idea on budget and places to go looking.
